Most habit trackers only count things you want more of. A StreakParty limit party counts what you want less of. You set a ceiling, such as takeaway no more than once a week, and the streak counts the weeks you stayed under it. Do it with friends who are cutting back on the same thing, and the group sees whose run is still going.
How a limit party works
- Set the line. Choose the period (daily, weekdays, weekly or monthly) and the most times it's allowed to happen in that period. The ceiling can be zero, if the goal is "not at all".
- Log it when it happens. On a limit party a check-in records a slip, not an achievement. Had the takeaway? Log it. Logging honestly is the whole point.
- The streak counts periods survived. Every period you finish at or under the ceiling adds one. Go over and the run starts again.
- Your friends see the scoreboard. The party's leaderboard ranks everyone by their current run, so staying under the line is something the group notices, not just you.
Some limits people set
StreakParty has three ready-made limit parties you can start from and change however you like:
- Fast Food Watch: takeaway once a week and no more.
- No-Spend Week: two impulse buys a week, tops.
- Scroll Less: one doomscroll a day is plenty.
Or make your own: drinks no more than twice a week, energy drinks never, online shopping once a month, coffee after 3pm never, late-night snacking twice a week.
Why it behaves differently from a normal party
A limit party flips the usual rules, so a few things deliberately work differently:
- No "your turn" nudges. On a normal party a nudge says "I've done mine, now you". On a limit party there's no turn to take, and nudging someone towards the thing they're cutting back on would be the opposite of help.
- No celebration when you check in. Elsewhere in the app every check-in gets confetti. Here a check-in is a slip, and the app won't cheer it.
- No streak freezes. On a normal party a freeze covers a day you missed. On a limit party a "miss" is the thing happening, so covering it would delete the evidence rather than save a run.
- No evening reminder. There's nothing you need to do before midnight, so the app doesn't ask.
Why do it with friends?
Cutting back alone is a private negotiation with yourself, and it's easy to lose. Agreeing a line with two or three friends makes it a shared rule. You can see who's still under it, send each other a boost on a hard week, and talk it through in the party's group chat.
You can mix both kinds of party too: a limit party for takeaway and a normal one for cooking at home, side by side.
Is it free?
Yes. The free plan includes unlimited personal habits and up to 3 shared parties with up to 6 people in each, and limit parties work on every plan. You don't need an account to start: a fresh install works straight away, and you create a free account when you invite friends. There are no ads. More about plans is in the FAQ.
StreakParty is a habit app, not a treatment programme. If cutting back on drinking, gambling or anything else feels out of your control, please talk to your doctor or a local support service as well.
